Emily Post, Listen Up!

We teach our children etiquette so they can smoothly navigate the sometimes choppy waters of social interaction with peers, strangers, and eventually employers. But what about us?

While we won't tell you how to set the table or what to do with a guest who hasn't RSVPed to your wedding, here are a few cleaning etiquette tips to get you the most bang for your buck and keep your cleaning team happy and productive.

  • Know the difference between a maid and a cleaning service- we can tidy up toys, clothes, mail, etc. but we have to know in advance to plan the time and cost accordingly.

  • Make sure your jewelry is put away to prevent potential damage and save time as the team moves through your home.

  • Don't let things stay dirty just because the cleaning company will be there tomorrow -this can result in additional charges and more time spent in your home than you anticipated, not to mention set in permanent stains.

  • If you skip your regular appointment without rescheduling right away, your team will need more time to properly clean and the cost of service can go up, too. Make sure you reschedule right away or keep up on the cleaning to save time and costs.

  • Your cleaning team is very physically active- be kind, keep the temperature comfortable in your home! Either pre-set or let your team adjust the air settings.

  • You don't have to tip, but it's always appreciated.

  • Have excitable pets? Crate them or leave them outside to allow your team to safely finish on time and preserve the clean!

  • Know that for safety reasons, your cleaning team can't climb tall ladders or move furniture.

  • If you need to be home during your cleaning, please stay in one area.

  • No need to follow your cleaning team around, but if you have concerns please let the team leader know!

  • Tidy up toys, mail, laundry on the floor, books, games, etc.- the faster we can clean, the more we can do.

  • Keep conversation with the cleaning team limited, they're often on a tight schedule.

  • Let us know in advance if certain areas don't need cleaning or are off limits for any reason.

  • Ask lots of questions! We want you to be happy with our service and get everything you need.

Whether TLC Cleaning or anyone else is taking care of your home, use these tips for a fast and smooth process! Have questions? Feel free to contact us.
